Fire pit rules in Laredo, TX β also called outdoor burning, recreational fire, or open flame ordinances β cover fuel types, clearances, and when burning is allowed.
Laredo allows residential fire pits under 3 feet diameter, 25 feet from structures and supervised. Gas and propane pits are exempt from Webb County burn bans.
Laredo Fire Department permits small recreational fires in residential fire pits when used for warmth or cooking. Fires must be contained in a noncombustible pit, ring, or approved device, with a maximum pile size of 3 feet diameter and 2 feet height per International Fire Code Section 307 adopted by the city. The pit must be located at least 25 feet from any structure, fence, or combustible material. Only clean, dry seasoned wood or charcoal may be burned. A responsible adult must attend the fire at all times, and a water source or extinguisher must be immediately available. When Webb County Commissioners Court issues a burn ban due to drought, wood-burning pits are prohibited, but natural gas and propane fire features remain legal under Texas Local Government Code Section 352.051. The Laredo Fire Department may order any fire extinguished if smoke creates a nuisance to neighbors.
First violation: warning and order to extinguish. Subsequent violations: Class C misdemeanor up to 500 dollars. Fires during burn ban: up to 500 dollars per Texas Local Government Code.
