It is unlawful to be in a public park or playground supervised by the parkway and park commission between 10:30 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. New Orleans also enforces a juvenile curfew (under 17): roughly 9:00 p.m. weeknights, 11:00 p.m. weekends, and a stricter 8:00 p.m. in the French Quarter.
New Orleans has two overlapping night-time curfews. City Code Chapter 106 (Parks and Recreation) makes it unlawful, except for authorized organized activities, to be on public playgrounds or parks under the parkway and park commission between 10:30 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., and unlawful at any time after sunset in unlit parks. Separately, the juvenile curfew (Chapter 54, persons under 17) bars unsupervised minors from public places roughly 9:00 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 11:00 p.m. Friday-Saturday until 6:00 a.m., with the French Quarter (bounded by Canal, N. Rampart, Esplanade/Elysian Fields, and the Mississippi River) under a stricter 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. curfew year-round.
Curfew violations are status offenses; minors are taken home or to a curfew center, and parents/custodians can be cited and fined up to $500 for repeat violations. Park-curfew violations are misdemeanors.
