Houston city parks operate from 6 AM to 11 PM unless otherwise posted, under Chapter 32, Art. II, Sec. 32-11. Some gated parks have earlier closing times. Urban Park Rangers close and lock access gates at designated times.
Under Houston Code Chapter 32, Art. II, Sec. 32-11, city parks are closed to the public outside of operating hours. The default hours are 6 AM to 11 PM, though many parks are described as 'dawn to dusk.' Some gated parks open at 6 AM and close as early as 8 PM, while others close at 11 PM. Urban Park Rangers are responsible for closing and locking access gates, restrooms, and parking lot gates at designated times. Camping is permitted only at Lake Houston Wilderness Park. Parks with facilities (sports fields, community centers, pools) may have separate facility hours. The Parks and Recreation Department director has authority to set specific hours for individual parks and facilities. All park visitors must follow posted rules and hours. Violations can result in citations from park rangers or HPD.
Being in a city park outside of posted hours may result in a citation or trespass warning from Urban Park Rangers or Houston Police.
