New Orleans treats a car as abandoned if it is left illegally on a street, inoperable on public property over 3 days, or on private property without consent over 24 hours. Report abandoned vehicles to 311; the city tags and tows them.
The City of New Orleans defines an abandoned vehicle as one left on a public street in violation of a parking law; inoperable and left unattended on public property more than three days; on private property without the owner's consent more than 24 hours; or on city-owned property more than three days. Under Ch. 154 a vehicle left unused or unoccupied at the same street location for at least five days after a notice is affixed is likewise abandoned. Nuisance and abandoned vehicles are also addressed in City Code Ch. 66, Art. III. Residents report them to 311 (nola311.org) for tagging and removal.
Tagged vehicles are towed to the City impound lot (400 N. Claiborne); the owner pays the tow (about $153) plus ~$19/day storage plus any underlying parking fines to reclaim the vehicle.
