New Orleans allows overnight street parking, but Sec. 154-881 prohibits leaving any vehicle on a street for more than 24 hours in a row. Move your car within a day to avoid a ticket and possible tow.
There is no general overnight ban in Orleans Parish, but Sec. 154-881, 'Parking for more than 24 hours prohibited,' makes it unlawful to leave a vehicle standing on any public street continuously for longer than 24 hours. This is enforced against apparently stored or abandoned cars and applies everywhere in the parish. Overnight, you must still obey Residential Permit Parking hours, street-cleaning schedules and all Sec. 154-923 clearances (hydrants, driveways, corners). A car left far beyond 24 hours can also be flagged as abandoned and processed for removal.
Parking over 24 hours is about a $20 fine (doubling every 30 days unpaid) and the vehicle may be tagged, ticketed and towed to the City impound lot.
