Sanger, CA Drone Rules: Commercial Drones (2026)

Commercial drone operations in and around Sanger are regulated at the federal level under 14 CFR Part 107 (Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems). The City of Sanger does not require a separate municipal permit for commercial drone activity. Under Part 107, commercial operators must obtain a Remote Pilot Certificate by passing the FAA Aeronautical Knowledge Test, register the drone with the FAA, and comply with operational limitations including a maximum altitude of 400 feet AGL, daytime operations (or with anti-collision lighting during civil twilight), visual line of sight, maximum groundspeed of 100 mph, and a prohibition on flying over non-participating persons without a waiver. Sanger's proximity to Fresno Yosemite International Airport (FAT) means that much of the city may fall within Class C controlled airspace. Commercial operators must obtain airspace authorization through the FAA LAANC system or by filing a traditional Part 107 airspace authorization request before conducting flights in controlled airspace. Waivers for operations beyond standard Part 107 limitations, such as flights over people, night operations beyond civil twilight, or beyond visual line of sight, must be applied for through the FAA DroneZone portal. Agricultural drone applications, which are relevant in the Sanger area, including crop surveying and precision spraying, are conducted under Part 107 with any applicable EPA and California Department of Pesticide Regulation approvals for chemical application.
