Sanger enforces California Vehicle Code Section 22669 for abandoned vehicles on public streets and Section 22658 for private property. Vehicles left on the street for over 72 hours or lacking current registration may be marked, cited, and towed at the owner's expense.
Under California Vehicle Code Section 22669, the Sanger Police Department may remove vehicles that have been parked on a public street for more than 72 consecutive hours. Vehicles displaying expired registration, flat tires, broken windows, or other indicators of abandonment may be marked and towed. A notice is typically affixed to the vehicle giving the owner a specified period to move it before towing. On private property, CVC Section 22658 allows property owners to request towing of unauthorized vehicles. Inoperable vehicles stored on residential property are addressed through the Sanger Municipal Code nuisance abatement provisions, which require that vehicles visible from the public right-of-way be operable and currently registered. Vehicles stored behind solid fencing or in enclosed garages are generally exempt from visible storage requirements. The Sanger Police Department works with contracted towing companies to remove abandoned vehicles.
Abandoned vehicles on public streets are subject to citation and towing under CVC 22669. Towing and storage fees are the responsibility of the registered owner. Inoperable vehicles on private property visible from the street result in code enforcement notices and administrative fines if not corrected.
