Clovis, CA Parking Rules: Abandoned Vehicles (2026)

The City of Clovis defines abandoned vehicles as those left on public streets for more than 72 consecutive hours or inoperable vehicles stored in view on private property. On public streets, California Vehicle Code 22669 authorizes the city to remove vehicles that have been parked for more than 72 hours in the same location, have expired registration, or appear disabled. The Clovis Police Department marks suspected abandoned vehicles and provides notice before authorizing towing. On private property, the Clovis Municipal Code prohibits storing inoperable, wrecked, or dismantled vehicles unless they are completely enclosed within a garage or other approved structure. Vehicles on blocks, without wheels, with flat tires, or in obvious disrepair visible from public rights-of-way are subject to Code Enforcement action. The city sends notice to property owners and provides a compliance period before initiating abatement. If the owner does not comply, the city may arrange for vehicle removal and charge the costs to the property owner. Fresno County also cooperates with Clovis on abandoned vehicle abatement in unincorporated areas near city limits.
