Bexar County is one of dozens of Texas counties opted into 30 TAC 114.512, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality locally enforced motor vehicle idling restriction. Diesel-powered motor vehicles with gross weight over 14,000 pounds may not idle for more than five consecutive minutes when the vehicle is not in motion. Exceptions cover sleeper berths during rest periods, traffic, mechanical inspections, and emergencies. The rule supports San Antonio's federal ozone non-attainment designation. Bexar County Sheriff and constables can cite, with revenues split between the citing entity and TCEQ enforcement.
