Lewisville regulates fences through Ch. 18 (Zoning) with requirements for height, placement, and maintenance. Fences must not create sight obstructions at intersections or driveways. All fences must be maintained in good repair and not present a safety hazard.
Lewisville's zoning ordinance (Ch. 18) and property maintenance codes establish general fence requirements for residential and commercial properties. Fences must comply with height limits (4 feet in front yards, 8 feet in side and rear yards), must not obstruct sight visibility triangles at street intersections or driveway exits, and must not encroach on public rights-of-way or utility easements. All fences must be maintained in a structurally sound condition with no missing boards, leaning sections, or exposed sharp edges. Fences in a state of disrepair that present a safety hazard or create a blighted appearance are subject to property maintenance code enforcement. Electric fences are prohibited in residential districts. Temporary construction fencing and silt fencing for erosion control are permitted during active construction with a valid building permit. Swimming pool barriers have separate requirements under the adopted ISPSC code. The city does not regulate fence color in standard residential zones, but HOA covenants often specify approved colors and styles.
Code Enforcement notice with compliance period. Fines up to $500 per day for continued non-compliance. Hazardous fences may be abated by the city with costs billed to the property owner.
