Section 98-1141 provides general provisions applicable to all fences and walls. Visibility triangles must be maintained at street intersections and driveway entrances to ensure safe sight lines for traffic. The finished or more attractive side of the fence must face outward toward the public right-of-way and adjacent properties in most residential districts. Barbed wire is restricted to agricultural districts and certain industrial or commercial zones. Electric fences are generally prohibited in residential areas. Fences may not be erected within recorded utility easements without written consent from the utility provider. The Cross Timbers Conservation Development District imposes additional requirements along scenic roadways, including specific approved fence styles (multi-rail or pipe fencing) and approved colors (white, black, dark green, or earth tones). Wood stockade and solid masonry perimeter fencing is prohibited in CTCDD zones along scenic corridors.
Non-compliant fences: correction notice with cure period. Fines up to $500 per day. Fences in easements without consent may be ordered removed at owner expense.
