Flower Mound requires a fence permit for all new fencing and most work on existing fences. Replacing fence pickets with the same material, size, and height does not require a permit. Replacing posts or rails, changing height, or moving a fence requires a permit from Building Inspections.
The Town of Flower Mound requires a fence permit for all new fence installations and for most modifications to existing fences. Specifically, a permit is required when replacing fence posts or rails, changing the fence height, or relocating a fence from its current position. The only exception is replacing pickets with new pickets of the same material, size, and height as those being removed, which does not require a permit. Fence permit applications are processed by the Building Inspections Division at (972) 874-6355. The application must include a site plan showing the fence location relative to property lines, easements, and setbacks. Fences cannot be built within recorded utility easements without written consent from the utility provider. Inspection is required after installation to verify compliance with the approved permit. The Perimeter Fence Replacement Program assists homeowners with replacing aging perimeter fences in certain neighborhoods. Visit flowermound.gov/fencereplacement for program details.
Building a fence without a permit: stop-work order and fine up to $500. Fence must be brought into compliance or removed. Each day without correction is a separate offense.
