Flower Mound Sec. 98-1142 (Ch. 98 Zoning, Div. 7 Fences and Walls) limits front yard fences to 4 feet in non-agricultural districts. Agricultural district front yards allow barbed wire or livestock fencing up to 5 feet. Side and rear yard fences may not exceed 8 feet above adjacent grade.
Section 98-1142 of the Flower Mound Code of Ordinances (Chapter 98 Zoning, Article IV Supplementary District Regulations, Division 7 Fences and Walls) establishes fence height limits by zoning district and yard location. In non-agricultural districts, no fence or wall within a required front yard may exceed 4 feet in height above the adjacent grade. In the agricultural (AG) district, solid fences or walls in the front yard are limited to 4 feet, but barbed wire or metal/wire livestock fencing not exceeding 5 feet is permitted. No fence or wall in a required side or rear yard may exceed 8 feet above adjacent grade. A visibility triangle must be maintained at intersections and driveway entrances to avoid sight-line obstructions. The Cross Timbers Conservation Development District (CTCDD) imposes additional height and style requirements along scenic roadways. Variance requests go to the Zoning Board of Adjustment. Contact Planning Services at (972) 874-6350 for specific zoning district requirements.
Non-compliant fences must be modified or removed. Fines up to $500 per day after notice. Variance denial is appealable to the Zoning Board of Adjustment.
