Denton DDC Sec. 7.8 limits fences to 4 ft in front yards and 8 ft in side/rear yards. Corner lot sight triangle: 3 ft within 25 ft of corner.
The Denton Development Code Section 7.8 establishes fence height limits based on location on the lot. Front yard fences in residential districts are limited to 4 feet maximum height measured from finished grade. Side yard and rear yard fences may be up to 8 feet. On corner lots, a sight visibility triangle must be maintained at the intersection; fences within this triangle (typically 25 feet from the corner along each street frontage) cannot exceed 3 feet in height to preserve driver sightlines. Fences on non-residential property follow the underlying zoning district standards. Retaining walls that also function as fences have their total height measured from the lower grade side. Any fence or wall exceeding 8 feet in height requires a building permit and structural engineering review. Decorative columns or posts may extend up to 12 inches above the maximum fence height. Fences along arterial streets or adjacent to commercial zones may have additional screening height allowances under the DDC buffer yard requirements.
Code compliance notice with 30-day cure period. Noncompliant fence: removal or modification at owner expense. Fine up to $500 per day after notice.
