Lucas County imposes no fence-material rule. In Toledo, residential fences must use materials made for fencing: pallets, doors, tires, corrugated metal, tree trunks, and other used or discarded items are prohibited, and wood posts must be treated lumber. Townships set their own material standards.
The City of Toledo restricts residential fence materials under TMC 1105.0300. Materials not specifically manufactured for fencing may not be used in a residential zoning district, and used or discarded items β including pallets, doors, tires, corrugated metal, and tree trunks β are expressly banned. Wood fence posts must be treated lumber. Lucas County itself sets no material rule, and unincorporated townships regulate materials through their own zoning resolutions adopted under ORC Ch. 519. Verify the list that applies to your parcel with the local zoning office.
A fence built from prohibited materials in Toledo is a code violation subject to removal or replacement orders through code enforcement.
