Lincoln's zoning code does not require a zoning permit for a code-compliant fence, but it bars fences from sight-distance triangles and from utility-equipment clearances. A building permit is separately required for fences over the standard height. Unincorporated lots need county approval.
LMC 27.72.140 sets 'Prohibited Locations' rather than a general permit: a fence cannot block the triangular sight-distance area for vehicles or an adjacent intersection except under city design standards and the Access Management Policy, and it must keep set clearances (10 feet, 3 feet, or 12 inches) from padmounted equipment and power pedestals. Fences taller than the code-standard height, or on commercial property, generally need a building permit from Lincoln Building & Safety. In unincorporated Lancaster County, contact the joint Lincoln-Lancaster County Planning Department before building.
