The City of Deer Park allows recreational fires in backyards for cooking and enjoyment under the International Fire Code as adopted locally. Portable fire pits, chimineas, and outdoor fireplaces are permitted provided they are used on noncombustible surfaces and maintained at a manageable size. Recreational fires must be constantly attended by a competent adult and a means of extinguishment such as a garden hose or fire extinguisher must be readily available. Fires must be located at least 15 feet from any structure, property line, or combustible materials. Burning of yard waste, trash, construction debris, or any materials other than clean dry wood or charcoal is prohibited. The Deer Park Fire Department may issue burn bans during drought conditions or high-ozone action days in coordination with Harris County. Violations should be reported to the Fire Department at (281) 478-7281.
Unauthorized burning or unattended fires may result in citations with fines up to $2,000. During burn bans, any outdoor burning other than gas or charcoal grilling is prohibited and subject to enhanced penalties.
