Redmond permits backyard recreational fires subject to International Fire Code Section 307 as adopted through RMC 15.06. Allowable fires include small wood or charcoal fires in a permanent fire pit, manufactured outdoor fireplace, chiminea, or approved portable fire container. Size may not exceed 3 feet in diameter and 2 feet in height. Clearance must be at least 25 feet from any structure, overhanging branch, fence, or combustible material for ground fires, and 15 feet for manufactured portable units. Only seasoned firewood or charcoal may be burned. Burning leaves, yard waste, trash, plastics, or treated lumber is prohibited under PSCAA Regulation 1. A responsible adult must attend the fire at all times with a garden hose or extinguisher immediately available. Fires must be fully extinguished before leaving them unattended. During PSCAA burn bans or DNR Stage 2 restrictions, all backyard fires are suspended.
