Trash, yard debris, and treated lumber are prohibited. The fire must be attended at all times by an adult with a hose, extinguisher, or water bucket within reach. During elevated fire-danger periods the Sandy Fire Marshal may restrict or ban all outdoor burning, particularly east of 1300 East. Neighbors who are directly impacted by smoke can file nuisance complaints under Sandy City Code.
Unattended or non-compliant fire: $250-$500. Burning prohibited materials or burning on no-burn day: $1,000 + Class B misdemeanor. Fire escape causing damage: full cost recovery plus potential criminal liability.
