Backyard recreational fires allowed when pit rules, clearance, and air quality restrictions are met.
Recreational backyard fires for cooking, warmth, or ceremony are allowed if contained in a pit 3 feet or less in diameter, 25 feet from any structure, and attended with water or an extinguisher. Only clean wood or charcoal may be burned. Fires are prohibited during DEQ-declared mandatory no-burn days (common during winter inversions) and during red flag warnings. Neighbors bothered by smoke may file a nuisance complaint under city code.
