West Jordan, UT Noise Ordinances: Construction Hours (2026)

Section 8-1-2 sets West Jordan's default construction-hours rule for work that touches city infrastructure or needs a city inspection. , excepting city-observed holidays; anything outside that band is nonbusiness hours for purposes of this chapter. Subsection B requires that construction or operations activities involving existing city infrastructure, or requiring city inspection, be conducted only during those hours except as approved by the city pursuant to this chapter, and adds that no such activity may occur without appropriate city staff actually present. The escape valve is section 8-1-3: a contractor who needs to work outside the 7:00 to 3:30 window must apply at least 24 hours ahead with the applicable department's executive assistant, spelling out the exact nonbusiness-hours schedule and paying the required fee before the application will even be accepted.

Section 8-1-4 backs that up by barring the city from scheduling the work until both the paperwork and payment are in, and section 8-1-5 sets the fee itself by reference to the city's inspections and operations fee schedule rather than a flat number in the ordinance. The chapter traces to 2001 Code section 72-7-020 and was carried forward through the 2009 recodification, and its stated purpose in section 8-1-1 is protecting public health, safety, and welfare from unsafe or unsupervised construction and operations activity during nonbusiness hours.
