West Jordan, UT Fence Regulations: Height Limits (2026)

Section 13-14-4(A) governs single-family and multi-family residential districts. Notwithstanding the usual setback, yard, and height rules elsewhere in the title, walls and fences may sit on the property line, next to the sidewalk, or anywhere in the yard between the building setback line and the property line. The maximum height above finished grade for a fence, wall, hedge, berm, or similar unroofed feature is four feet where it is sight-obscuring and located within the required front yard or street setback and within ten feet of a driveway and twenty feet of a street; six feet where it sits behind the required front yard or street setback, including in the front yard of homes on a collector or arterial street; and eight feet where it runs along a side or rear lot line adjacent to an arterial street.

Other zones carry different caps: the Public Facilities District limits fences to four feet in front yards and six feet elsewhere (13-14-4(B)), and the Professional Office, Commercial, and Manufacturing districts cap fences at thirty-six inches in a required front or street side yard while requiring a six-foot decorative masonry wall along any line adjacent to a residential zone (13-14-4(C)). On sloped lots, section 13-14-6 requires fences running perpendicular to the slope to average six feet with an eight-foot maximum, and fences on a retaining wall running parallel to the slope to stay under eight feet measured from the downhill side.
