Arizona has long permitted open carry of handguns and long guns without a permit. Adults eighteen and older may openly carry across Maricopa County, subject only to ARS section 13-3102 posted-area limits and federal restrictions near schools.
ARS section 13-3102 does not prohibit openly carrying a firearm, and Arizona has no statute requiring a permit for open carry. In Maricopa County, a person eighteen or older who is not a prohibited possessor may openly carry a holstered handgun or a slung long gun on public streets, parks, trails, and unincorporated lands. ARS section 13-3108 bars the county from adopting any stricter open-carry rule. Carry remains barred on K-12 school grounds, in posted public establishments and events under section 13-3102(A)(10), in secured federal buildings, polling places, and where alcohol is served and the carrier consumes. Brandishing or threatening display can be charged as disorderly conduct under ARS section 13-2904.
Open carry by a prohibited possessor or under eighteen is a class six felony or class one misdemeanor under ARS section 13-3102, and brandishing in a threatening way is disorderly conduct under section 13-2904.
