Chandler prohibits keeping poisonous reptiles and snakes within the city. Certain animals must be kept at least 200 feet from neighboring residences without written consent. Arizona AAC R12-4-406 governs restricted wildlife statewide.
Chandler City Code Chapter 14 prohibits keeping any poisonous reptile or poisonous snake within city limits. Certain animals or fowl may not be kept within 200 feet of any person's residence except the owner's, unless the neighbor provides written consent. Arizona Administrative Code R12-4-406 provides a comprehensive list of restricted live wildlife that may not be kept as pets statewide. Just because an animal is legal under state law does not mean the City of Chandler allows it. The December 2023 Ordinance 4992 updated Chapter 14 to include animal hoarding as a specific offense and strengthened seizure authority for suspected abuse cases. Exotic animal regulations are enforced through Chandler Code Enforcement and Maricopa County Animal Care.
Class 1 misdemeanor for keeping prohibited animals. Fine up to $2,500. Animal seizure authorized under Ordinance 4992.
