The Table of Permitted Uses for Nonresidential Districts at Sec. 35-2100 lists "Veterinarian hospital or clinic" with a qualifying note, "All equipment, storage of animals and services are wholly contained within the principal building", and marks the use permitted (X) in the C-2 and C-3 columns only; the C-1, I-1 and I-2 columns are blank, meaning the use isn't allowed there at all under this table. That places veterinary hospitals and clinics in the same commercial-only footprint as several other animal-related uses in the table: "Animal day care indoors only, with or without overnight boarding" is permitted in C-1, C-2 and C-3, while "Animal day care with outdoor play areas" is listed as a use-permit (UP) item in C-2 and C-3 only, and "Hospitals (excluding animal hospitals)" gets its own broader C-1/C-2/C-3 by-right listing that specifically carves veterinary hospitals out.

Because the veterinarian entry conditions approval on keeping animal storage and services wholly inside the principal building, a clinic proposing an outdoor exercise yard, outdoor boarding run, or any animal-handling area open to the sky would not fit the by-right listing and would need to pursue the outdoor-play-area use-permit track that the table applies to animal day care instead, or seek a use permit of its own.
