Charlotte UDO designates food trucks as allowed use in most commercial and mixed-use zones and prohibits them in R-1 through R-4 residential zones except at permitted events. Uptown streets require special event or block-party permit.
Charlotte UDO Section 7.201 allows mobile food vending in Commercial, Office, Industrial, Mixed-Use, and Transit-Oriented zones. Prohibited as a regular use in single-family residential zones R-1 through R-4. Vending in public right-of-way requires a Charlotte Special Event Permit or CDOT block-party permit. Must maintain 50 ft setback from permanent food establishments with active operation (brick-and-mortar restaurants may request distance enforcement). Mecklenburg County Parks allow food trucks at Park and Recreation facilities only with concessionaire agreement. HOA-governed private streets and parking lots are not public vending zones.
Vending in prohibited zone: 250 dollars plus required removal within 4 hours. ROW vending without permit: 500 dollars.
