Cobb County Code of Ordinances Chapter 90, Article III regulates yard and garage sales (termed 'casual sales'). Each household in unincorporated Cobb must obtain a free permit from the Cobb County Business License Division (1150 Powder Springs St, Suite 400, Marietta; 770-528-8410) before holding a sale. Permits can be applied for online. Each household is limited to 2 sales per calendar year, each lasting no more than 3 consecutive days. Merchandise must be used personal property of the household β not commercially acquired inventory, which would constitute retail business requiring full occupation tax certificate. Advertising signs may be placed only on the property where the sale is held; signs in the public right-of-way, on utility poles, or at intersections are prohibited (Ch. 122 sign ordinance) and subject to removal.
Sale without permit: $100β$500 Ch. 90 citation. Signs in ROW or on poles: removed by county, $50β$250 per sign. Exceeding 2 sales/year: retail-business violation $250β$1,000.
