Home occupations that operate without special approval in unincorporated Manatee County may not display any sign advertising the business. Keeping the property looking residential, with no visible business signage, is a core condition of the by-right home-occupation allowance.
Under the Manatee County Land Development Code, a home occupation permitted without approval cannot take on the appearance of a business, and no signs advertising the business are allowed. There can also be no outdoor storage or display of merchandise. This no-sign rule is what keeps a home business "invisible" from the street, as the code intends. Home occupations that qualify for a special permit may be allowed limited signage under the terms of that permit. Sign regulations generally are found in the LDC sign chapter, and city limits follow the city's own sign code.
Posting a prohibited home-business sign is a Land Development Code violation; Manatee County Code Enforcement can require its removal and impose daily fines until compliance.
