Signage is set by your municipality, not Lehigh County. In Allentown, a no-impact Type 1 home occupation may not advertise with commercial-like exterior features, and no outdoor display of merchandise is allowed. The state MPC's no-impact definition also bars any external display or sign.
Home-occupation signs are governed by Allentown's Zoning Ordinance and the PA Municipalities Planning Code, not the county. Section 660-48.G prohibits external structural alterations that change a home's residential appearance, including commercial-like exterior lighting, and bars any outdoor display of material or merchandise in connection with a Type 1 home occupation. Because a Type 1 must qualify as an MPC 'no-impact home-based business' (53 P.S. § 10107), it cannot display any sign visible from off the lot. Any permitted small home-occupation sign in another Lehigh municipality would follow that town's own sign ordinance.
An illegal home-business sign or display is a zoning violation; Allentown can require its removal and levy fines under the ordinance and the MPC.
