Port St. Lucie's home-occupation rule prohibits any exterior evidence of a business, effectively banning signage on the dwelling. The home may not reveal from the outside that it is used for anything other than a residence.
Under Port St. Lucie Zoning Code Section 158.217, a home occupation may not reveal from the exterior that the dwelling is being used for any purpose other than a dwelling. That standard bars business signs, window displays, outdoor storage, and other visible indications of commercial activity at the residence. St. Lucie County's Land Development Code applies the same no-outward-evidence principle to home occupations in the unincorporated area. If a business needs a sign or walk-in visibility, it generally must locate in a commercially zoned property rather than operate as a home occupation.
An unpermitted home-business sign is a code violation; code compliance issues a notice and can levy daily fines through the Special Magistrate until the sign is removed.
