In unincorporated Clayton County, grass, weeds, and similar plants on developed land may not exceed ten inches. Owners and occupants must keep the property mowed and clear of rubbish; cities like Jonesboro and Forest Park set their own limits.
The Quality of Life Code, Chapter 62, Article II of the Code of Clayton County governs property maintenance in the unincorporated county. Section 62-202(b) makes it unlawful for the owner, occupant, or person in possession of developed land to let grass, weeds, and similar plants exceed ten inches, and requires removal of dead trees, trash, and rubbish. Code Enforcement, under the Corrections Department, investigates complaints. Incorporated cities (Jonesboro, Forest Park, Riverdale, Morrow) enforce their own municipal codes with separate height rules.
Property must be brought into compliance within five business days of a Notice of Violation. Failure leads to a Magistrate Court citation and fine under section 1-12; the county may abate and lien the cost.
