Clayton County lets you post 'weekend signs' (yard-sale and similar temporary signs) without a permit, but only from 6 p.m. Friday to 8 p.m. Sunday, no larger than 4 square feet per side and 3 feet tall, and never in the right-of-way.
Under the Zoning Ordinance (Sec. 8.6), weekend signs are exempt from sign permitting but must follow strict limits: they may be erected after 6:00 p.m. Friday and must come down by 8:00 p.m. the following Sunday. Each sign may not exceed three feet in height and four square feet per side, may be no more than two-sided, and must stay at least ten feet from the curb or pavement and out of the public right-of-way. Only one such temporary sign is allowed per 500 feet of road frontage, and it must not create a traffic hazard. Signs placed in the right-of-way violate Sec. 62-30.7 and are removed.
Weekend signs violating the ordinance may be removed without notice as safety hazards; right-of-way signs are cited under Sec. 62-30.7.
