Palm Bay Code Section 93.03 prohibits grass and weeds exceeding 12 inches on improved properties. Section 93.04 requires unimproved lot owners to maintain vegetation within 15 feet of adjacent improved properties. The city conducts active code sweeps across its 130 square miles.
Under Section 93.03, owners of improved real property must not permit tall grass and weeds to exceed 12 inches and must keep property free from trash, debris, junk, and dead or fallen trees. Section 93.04 requires unimproved lot owners adjoining improved property to maintain vegetation below 12 inches within 15 feet of side and rear lot lines, and below 24 inches within 15 feet of road or drainage right-of-way lines. An exemption exists for vegetation providing habitat for Florida Scrub Jay, gopher tortoise, black indigo snake, or other endangered species.
Code compliance violations result in notice to the property owner. If not corrected, the city may mow the property and place a lien for the cost. Repeat violations face escalating fines.
