Euless, TX Landscaping Rules: Tree Removal & Heritage Trees (2026)

Euless regulates tree removal primarily through its Tree Preservation and Landscape Ordinance incorporated in the Unified Development Code (UDC), enforced by the Planning and Development Services Department. The ordinance focuses on protected trees — generally native species such as post oak, live oak, pecan, cedar elm, and bur oak at or above a defined trunk caliper (typically 6 to 8 inches DBH). Removal of protected trees on undeveloped lots, commercial sites, multifamily developments, and during site-development permitting requires a tree-removal permit, a tree survey, and mitigation planting or a fee-in-lieu if replacement cannot be made on-site. Dead, diseased, or hazardous trees documented by a certified arborist are removed without mitigation. For already-developed single-family residential lots, owners may generally remove trees in their yard without a city permit unless the tree is in a designated preservation area, a floodway or drainage easement, or in the public right-of-way (ROW). Removal of ROW trees requires Public Works approval. HOA covenants commonly layer additional restrictions, including required species replacements. Utility-related trimming and removal by ONCOR or electric providers for clearance does not trigger the ordinance but should be coordinated with the homeowner.
