Euless, TX Landscaping Rules: Native Plants (2026)

Euless does not require a specific mix of turf or ornamental plants and generally allows native-plant, xeriscape, and pollinator landscaping on residential and commercial properties. Landscaping submitted with commercial and multifamily site plans under the Unified Development Code is reviewed for drought tolerance, and credits are available for native-species plantings. On single-family residential lots, homeowners are free to replace turf with drought-tolerant ground covers such as buffalograss, Blackfoot daisy, autumn sage, Gulf muhly, and Texas sage so long as the yard remains neatly maintained and weed-height limits are respected. Texas Property Code 202.007 restricts HOA authority to ban drought-resistant landscaping, rain barrels, composting devices, and efficient-irrigation systems, although HOAs may impose reasonable design standards — such as requiring a landscape plan, prohibiting the use of bare earth, and specifying acceptable ground covers. Turf-replacement rebates are periodically offered by the city and Trinity River Authority. Recommended native lists are published by Texas Smartscape and the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension. Maintained native landscapes count toward the property-appearance standards in the city code, but unmaintained weedy growth over 12 inches remains a nuisance regardless of whether the plants are native.
