Katy requires the public works director's approval before trimming, pruning, or otherwise altering any tree on city property, easements, or rights-of-way.
Article 1.13 of the Katy Code reserves management of vegetation in parks, public easements, and rights-of-way to the public works director or designee. This includes planting, pruning, maintaining, replacing, and removing trees. Private individuals or contractors may not cut, carve, transplant, or remove vegetation on public property without authorization. Violations are misdemeanors punishable by a fine of up to $200 per tree affected.
