Removing or destroying a tree on Katy public property without the public works director's permission is a misdemeanor with fines up to $200 per tree.
Under Article 1.13 of the City of Katy Code, only the public works director or designee may remove trees on city parks, public easements, rights-of-way, or other publicly owned property. Intentionally damaging, cutting, carving, transplanting, or removing such vegetation without authorization is a misdemeanor offense. Fines may be assessed up to $200 per violation. Replacement and replanting decisions are also reserved to the city. New development projects must additionally comply with landscape requirements in the zoning code.
