League City Chapter 125, Article VII requires a tree disposition permit before removing or impacting protected trees on commercial and multi-family properties. Single-family homeowners are exempt from the permit requirement but must still comply with general property standards.
Article VII of Chapter 125 establishes tree preservation requirements. Section 125-7.1.1 requires a tree disposition permit before any tree impact activity or removal of protected trees. Permits are valid for six months. Section 125-7.1.3 provides enhanced protection for significant trees (Oak or Pecan with 38 inches or greater caliper). The planning director may approve removal of one significant tree or up to 10% of total caliper inches. City council approval is needed for removal exceeding 10% up to 25%. Section 125-7.5.1 exempts legally conforming single-family residences from the permit requirement and mitigation obligations. Dead, diseased, or hazardous trees may be removed without mitigation under Section 125-7.5.2 with city arborist determination.
Unpermitted tree removal on non-exempt properties: fine up to $2,000 per offense (zoning violation). Mitigation payment required at established rate per caliper inch.
