Marion County has no general numeric weed-height ordinance for unincorporated private property; weed and dead-vegetation overgrowth is handled through Florida's sanitary-nuisance statute and complaint-based code enforcement. The Land Development Code does require removal of UF/IFAS-listed prohibited/invasive plant species.
Unincorporated Marion County does not set a fixed countywide maximum height for weeds, undergrowth, or dead vegetation on private lots; conditions that threaten public health may be abated as a sanitary nuisance under Florida Statute 386.01. The county's tree code, however, expressly addresses invasive vegetation: Land Development Code Sec. 6.7.2.M exempts from permit requirements (and effectively encourages) the removal of exotic or nuisance tree or plant species listed in the UF/IFAS Assessment of Non-native Plants 'Prohibited' or 'Invasive - Not Recommended' tables, as updated. Within developments, owners are responsible for maintaining required landscaping in a living, healthy condition (LDC Div. 7-8). Weed and overgrowth complaints on unincorporated property are handled by Marion County Code Enforcement (Growth Services) on a complaint basis, with abatement referred to the Code Enforcement Board where conditions are not corrected.
Maintaining a sanitary nuisance under Fla. Stat. 386.01 may be abated and is a second-degree misdemeanor under Fla. Stat. 386.03/386.04; locally, uncorrected nuisance vegetation may be cited and referred to the Code Enforcement Board for fines.
