Barking dog rules in Nueces County, TX — also called nuisance dog, dog noise, or excessive barking ordinances — define when a barking dog becomes a code violation and how complaints are handled.
Nueces County has no county noise ordinance. In Corpus Christi, Code § 31-2 declares keeping any animal that makes 'frequent or long, continued noise' an unlawful noise nuisance. In unincorporated areas, a barking dog is handled under state disorderly-conduct and nuisance law.
Texas counties cannot enact zoning-style noise ordinances, so unincorporated Nueces County has no barking-dog decibel rule. The City of Corpus Christi Code § 31-2(2) lists 'the keeping of any animal, fowl, or bird, which makes frequent or long, continued noise' among enumerated noise nuisances when it disturbs a person of reasonable sensibilities. Sustained barking can also trip the § 31-3 property-line decibel limits. Outside city limits, complaints go to the Nueces County Sheriff and animal control; persistent noise may be prosecuted as disorderly conduct under Texas Penal Code § 42.01(a)(5).
In Corpus Christi, a barking-dog noise nuisance is a misdemeanor under § 31-8, fined per § 1-6, each day a separate violation. Owners and anyone controlling the animal can be cited under § 31-9.
