Construction hours in Hamilton County, IN — sometimes called construction noise rules or contractor work-hour ordinances — set when contractors can run power tools, hammers, and heavy equipment.
Hamilton County sets no county construction-hours rule; cities do. Carmel allows building construction only between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. Fishers limits construction equipment and power tools to 7 a.m.-10 p.m. (May 15-Sept 15) or 7 a.m.-9 p.m. (Sept 16-May 14).
Building construction hours are set by each city, not Hamilton County. Carmel City Code Sec. 6-158(b)(15) exempts construction noise only between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., plus bona fide emergencies as defined in IC 36-1-2-4.5. Fishers Code Sec. 98.02(E) limits lawn and construction equipment, generators and power tools to 7:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m. from May 15 to September 15, and 7:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m. from September 16 to May 14. Noblesville and Westfield contractors should check those city codes. County code governs only unincorporated land.
Carmel violations are infractions, $250 up to $2,500 for repeat offenses. Fishers treats violations as Class C infractions enforced by the Fishers Police Department.
