Construction hours in Meridian, ID β sometimes called construction noise rules or contractor work-hour ordinances β set when contractors can run power tools, hammers, and heavy equipment.
Meridian has no separate construction-hours ordinance. Construction noise is governed by the general noise rule, Meridian City Code 6-3-6, which makes public disturbance noises unlawful from 11:00 PM to 6:00 AM and prohibits noise that unreasonably disturbs others at any hour. Permitted projects may carry additional time conditions.
The City of Meridian does not maintain a dedicated construction-hours ordinance with a fixed start-and-stop schedule for contractors. Instead, construction noise falls under the city's general noise provision, Meridian City Code section 6-3-6, 'Noises Creating Public Disturbance.' Under that section, public disturbance noises are unlawful between 11:00 PM and 6:00 AM, and noise that unreasonably disturbs or interferes with the peace, comfort, and repose of nearby property owners may be cited at any time. The ordinance expressly lists frequent, repetitive, or continuous sounds emanating from buildings, structures, and equipment as public disturbance noises. In practice, this means routine daytime construction is generally allowed, but work that runs into the late-night and early-morning quiet-hours window, or that is unreasonably disruptive, can draw enforcement. Section 6-3-6 also exempts noise from events for which a permit has been issued, but only within the hours imposed as a condition of that permit, so a city-issued permit may attach its own time limits. A violation of 6-3-6 is a misdemeanor. Larger developments may also be subject to conditions of approval that restrict hours of operation.
Construction noise during the 11:00 PM to 6:00 AM window, or noise that unreasonably disturbs neighbors at any hour, is a misdemeanor under Meridian City Code 6-3-6. Permit conditions can impose stricter hour limits.
