Under TX Transportation Code Β§683.002, law enforcement may tag a vehicle as abandoned if it has been on public property more than 48 hours, is inoperable and left more than 72 hours on private property without consent, or has expired registration more than 30 days. The Collin County Sheriff or city police send a 10-day notice to the registered owner before auction. Plano Code Β§14-55 extends abandoned status to any vehicle with flat tires or missing parts visible from the street on private property.
