Unincorporated Del Norte County has no specific ordinance restricting commercial-vehicle or big-rig parking in residential areas. The California Vehicle Code controls, and Section 22507.5 lets local authorities restrict heavy commercial-vehicle parking in residential districts only if they adopt and post such rules.
Del Norte County does not appear to have adopted a county-wide ordinance singling out commercial trucks, big rigs, or trailers for special residential parking limits, so the baseline is the California Vehicle Code. Vehicle Code Section 22507.5 provides that, notwithstanding the general parking statute, 'local authorities may, by ordinance or resolution, prohibit or restrict the parking or standing' of commercial vehicles with a manufacturer's gross vehicle weight rating of 10,000 pounds or more, and certain house cars and trailers, on residential streets between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m., and may set up a permit system exempting disabled persons, residents, and their guests. Such restrictions apply only where the County has actually enacted them and posted required signs; absent that, commercial vehicles are subject to the same Vehicle Code rules as other vehicles. The County's Title 20 zoning code instead channels intensive commercial vehicle activity, such as truck terminals, equipment storage yards, and outdoor sales yards, into commercial and industrial districts (for example the C-2, C-3, C-4, and M manufacturing/industrial districts) rather than residential zones. Storing a commercial vehicle, trailer, or heavy equipment on a residential parcel in a way that creates visual blight or violates the parcel's zoning can be addressed through code enforcement. For the most current rules, confirm with the Community Development Department and watch for posted signs, which are required before sign-based parking restrictions can be enforced.
Without a specific county ordinance, commercial-vehicle violations are generally enforced under the Vehicle Code (blocking roadways, hydrants, or driveways; 72-hour removal). Storing commercial vehicles or equipment contrary to a parcel's zoning, or creating visual blight, can be cited through Community Development code enforcement, leading to abatement.
