Residents do not paint curbs; the town marks them. In Smyrna a yellow-painted curb designates a fire lane where parking is prohibited, on both public and private property. Painted yellow lines and official markings likewise control where you may stop or park.
Curb and pavement markings in Smyrna are placed by the town, and residents cannot paint street curbs to reserve parking. Under Section 15-604(13), parking is prohibited in any approved fire lane where the curb has been painted yellow or where approved signs or markings indicate a fire lane, including officially designated fire lanes on both public and private property. Section 15-108 requires drivers to stay right of a yellow line except to make a lawful left turn. Tampering with or defacing official markings and meters is separately barred (Sec. 15-619). Murfreesboro similarly reserves curb marking to the city and enforces yellow fire-lane curbs.
Fire-lane and marking violations cited under Sec. 15-625; vehicles may be towed. Defacing official markings is a separate offense (Sec. 15-619).
