Smyrna bans parking commercial vehicles over 12,000 pounds gross weight on public streets in residential districts or on residential lots under five acres. Emergency, refuse and active service vehicles are excepted, and two school buses may be kept at a driver's home.
Under Smyrna Section 15-622, no one may park a motor vehicle licensed or primarily used for commercial purposes with a gross vehicular rated weight over 12,000 pounds on a public street within a residential zoning district or on a residential lot smaller than five acres. Excepted are emergency service vehicles, refuse-collection trucks, and vehicles actively performing a service between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., including moving vans and construction vehicles. A resident bus driver may keep up to two school buses in a rear or side yard. Refuse trucks cannot idle within 200 feet of a dwelling more than one hour per day. Murfreesboro applies parallel weight and residential-district limits.
Citation under Sec. 15-625; each day a violation continues is a separate offense. Property owners who permit the condition are separately liable (Sec. 15-613).
