Galveston County cannot regulate driveways, so cities set the rules. The City of Galveston requires RVs, boats and trailers to sit in a screened side or rear yard (sec. 34-119), and League City prohibits parking cars, boats or recreational vehicles on the grass. Unincorporated county land has no yard-parking limit.
Driveway and front-yard parking is a zoning-type matter that Texas counties cannot control, so Galveston County sets no rule on unincorporated lots. In the City of Galveston, Code sec. 34-119 keeps campers, trailers, motor homes and boats out of front yards, requiring a screened side or rear yard. League City's unified development code, sec. 125-170(20), lists cars, boats and recreational vehicles parked on the grass as a code violation, effectively requiring a paved or approved surface. Texas City sets similar standards through its own code.
City violations are Class C misdemeanors abated through code enforcement, with per-day fines up to $500 and orders to move the vehicle to an approved surface.
