There is no county-wide overnight parking ban in unincorporated Minnehaha County. Vehicles may remain parked off the roadway provided they comply with SDCL 32-30-1 (off the traveled portion) and do not exceed the 24-hour threshold that triggers abandoned-vehicle status under SDCL 32-30-12 and Chapter 32-30A.
South Dakota law does not prohibit overnight parking on rural rights-of-way as long as the vehicle is fully off the traveled portion of the highway (SDCL 32-30-1) and 200 feet of clear sight distance is maintained (SDCL 32-30-2). Minnehaha County has not adopted an alternate-side or snow-emergency parking ordinance for unincorporated areas; such rules exist only inside the cities (most notably Sioux Falls under its home-rule traffic code). However, any vehicle left unattended on a public road, highway, or highway right-of-way for more than 24 hours without notifying the sheriff or appropriate authority is deemed abandoned under SDCL 32-30-12 and is subject to removal under the county sheriff process in SDCL Chapter 32-30A. Camping overnight in a vehicle on the public right-of-way is not separately prohibited by county code but may run into the SDCL 21-10-1 nuisance framework if it persists.
A vehicle left more than 24 hours without notice is treated as abandoned and may be towed by the Sheriff at owner expense under SDCL 32-30A. Posted snow-emergency areas (rare in unincorporated areas, common in cities) carry separate municipal fines.
