Louisville Metro has no blanket overnight parking ban on public streets. LMCO Chapter 72 prohibits parking over 72 hours in one spot, and posted restricted zones (2-6 AM) exist near hospitals and downtown.
Unlike many cities, Louisville Metro does not impose a general overnight parking ban under LMCO Chapter 72 (Traffic Schedules). KRS Β§189.450 governs stopping/standing statewide. Parking a vehicle on any public street in the same location for more than 72 consecutive hours is prohibited under LMCO Β§72.31 and may result in towing as an abandoned vehicle. Posted 2 AM to 6 AM restrictions apply in designated downtown zones, near University of Louisville Hospital, and on specific residential permit streets (RPP zones including Old Louisville and Cherokee Triangle). Street sweeping schedules also trigger temporary no-parking hours. PARC (Parking Authority of River City) and LMPD Traffic Unit issue citations.
72-hour violation: $25 citation plus towing at owner expense ($175+ plus $25/day storage). Restricted zone violation: $15-$50. Residential permit parking zone without permit: $25 first offense, escalating for repeat offenders. Unpaid tickets over 30 days double.
