DC requires a Residential Permit Parking (RPP) sticker for overnight street parking in most residential zones. Non-residents are generally limited to 2 hours during restricted periods, with some zones enforcing 24/7.
DDOT operates the Residential Permit Parking program across most DC wards. Residents with DC-registered vehicles purchase an annual RPP sticker for their zone (Zones 1-8). During posted hours (commonly 7 AM to 8:30 PM weekdays, with some blocks extending to 10 PM or 24/7) non-permit vehicles are limited to 2 hours. Visitor passes are available through ParkMobile or the Guest Visitor Pass program. Commercial vehicles over 22 feet, trailers, and RVs cannot be parked on residential streets overnight under DC Code Section 50-2201.28. Dupont Circle, Georgetown, Adams Morgan, and H Street NE have enhanced 24/7 RPP enforcement. Violations are ticketed by DDOT parking enforcement.
Standard overnight violation $30-$50; oversize or commercial vehicle on residential street $100-$250 plus possible tow.
